I have made a short video tutorial describing the actions necessary and how to manipulate the pattern size and scale within Inkscape. Inkscape does not yet allow you to edit the color swatches or add new swatches to the palette via the UI. As you can see on the right in the image above, I think I figured it out! I recently had need to see how fabric would read in a design, so I set out to see if it was possible within Inkscape. Single left click on 'Fill and Stroke', which is highlighted in blue in the image below. Single right click on the selected rectangle to bring up a menu.
Bring up the Fill and Stroke ( Shift + Ctrl + F) dialog, set the Fill to Flat color and choose a color from the HSL color picker. Create a small rectangle in the center of the page. Download the file linked above and open it in InkScape. Its good to see the swatches being worked on. I did not know if it was possible, and the best I had previously done was use the eyedropper tool to fill in the designs with solid colors from fabrics, as seen on the left in the image above. Step 1: Open Color-Swatches-Template.svg in InkScape. One of the things I have wanted to learn how to do within Inkscape is how to import fabric swatches and use the fabric swatches in my designs. Drag the pattern swatch out of the swatches panel to the artboard Click OK.

This is something that is definitely a huge plus for the Electric Quilt design software, and I was hoping I could figure out a way to use the free Inkscape software package to do the same. you will need a couple of programs, Inkscape, a vector drawing program. One of the things I have wanted to learn how to do within Inkscape is how to import fabric swatches and use the fabric swatches in my designs.
